Catch rate in cold water – Which boilies should you buy in winter?
If you want to successfully fish with boilies even in low water temperatures, Carptrack Cold Water Boilies have been developed precisely for this purpose. The special recipe has been adapted for the period from October/November to April and shows its strengths particularly below 15 °C, well below 10 °C and even in the extreme cold range below 5 °C.
Why Cold Water Boilies Work in Winter
The ingredients are based on proven Carptrack mixes. However, the proportion of water-soluble components has been increased for the winter version. This allows the boilies to start working more quickly from the outside, and attractants dissolve rapidly even in cold water. This creates a fast and constant exchange of attractants – crucial when carp are feeding sluggishly and cautiously.
Our team anglers and many customers rely on these Cold Water Boilies in winter and consistently achieve good results – even with a closed ice cover and fishing through the ice hole.

The base of the boilie is the well-known Carptrack Monster Mix, but with a reduced proportion of Carptrack Powder, making the bait less filling and more versatile.
The mix contains:
- 5% Hungarian paprika
- 5% Spanish Pepper (Haith's – hotter than Robin Red)
- 2% Asian garlic powder
- NHDC – the original
- 7 ml/kg Carptrack Bloodworm Flavor
- 1 ml/kg Garlic Essential Oil
This composition creates an immediate, yet long-lasting attraction and very good wash-out – ideal for cold temperatures.
The five most important rules for success in winter
1. Don't overfeed – carp digest food much more slowly in cold water. Feed small portions regularly.
2. Starting in October, observe where the carp are congregating. These spots are usually near their later wintering grounds.
3. Look for deeper areas, calm holes, or spots with a temperature stability of 4°C. Bodies of water always freeze from top to bottom – it's warmer at the bottom in winter.
4. Carp bite much less in winter. If a fishing spot isn't productive, keep moving until you get a bite.
5. Feeding periods are short. Low pressure systems often bring the most successful catches – try shallower waters then.
