Trip to Crazy Lake!
What's going on at Crazy Lake?
A few weeks ago I received a WhatsApp message from my friend Sebastian Fickinger saying: "Yeah Chris, I've got two weeks off, are you up for France?" Since I had already finished high school at the time and was free until September 1st, my answer was: "Yeah, sure, when are we leaving?" Less than an hour later we had everything planned, but we wanted to choose the body of water spontaneously. We had our eye on the four lakes around the city of Langres and wanted to decide on the spot where we would settle. A few days after our agreement, I was standing on Sebastian's doorstep early in the morning. I quickly packed my stuff into his car and continued on towards France. After a good three hours' drive from Saarland, we were at Lac de la Liez, where two of Sebastian's friends were fishing. Things weren't going so well on the lake as a whole and the night fishing areas were full of anglers. The same was true at Charmes and Mouche. So we decided on Lac de Villegusien, also known as Crazy Lake. Since the entire northern shore was washed away by the lake being completely filled, we only had the option of fishing on the southern shore. We decided on the last spot in the night fishing zone before the barrage.
In the evening all rods were in perfect position.
We covered all depths from 1.5m to 8m and fed per rod approx. 1 kilo of Carptrack Boilies , Carptrack Amino Pellets and Tiger Nuts, pimped with various Carptrack additives .
We fished the joker rod on a small plateau directly in front of the dam.
On the very first night, I caught a 16 kg common carp on the shallowest rod at a depth of 1.5 m. I had just put the fish on the unhooking mat to take a photo when the same rod ran off again and the 16 kg common carp said goodbye to my mat with a slap. Without a photo, of course :-( That morning I fought the second fish in an unknown body of water, which weighed an impressive 18.7 kg. The trip couldn't have started better!
In front of this amazing backdrop I let the fish back into its element.
Unfortunately, nothing happened here during the day.
And we passed the time with the spinning rod.
In the evening everything became overcast and it started to rain heavily. We hoped that the fish would become more active again.
On the second night I managed to catch this round common carp on two 20mm Carptrack Crawfish boilies . It was again the flat rod that brought the fish. We decided to fish here for another night and then look for a spot on the flatter but flooded north bank.
On the third night, nothing happened here, we only had fun with the sailing school, as they often sailed through the wide rods...
We packed the boats full and looked for a place on the north bank.
Luckily, we found what we were looking for at the end of the night fishing zone and that's exactly where we settled down. From here we could fish a huge bay with a water depth of 3-4 meters.
Using the depth sounder, we looked for some interesting spots in the rather monotonous bay.
It was precisely on such uneven surfaces that we placed our mounts.
Reeds as far as the eye can see.
But in the middle there was a strip of water with a depth of 2.5m and rock-hard bottom. This is where Sebastian placed two of his four rods.
I also pimped my hook baits with Carptrack Amino Gel .
My iBoat 260 in Realtree style was ready for the night. In my opinion, the iBoat 260 is perfectly designed for one angler. I can safely store my tackle for a week here and can even row at the same time. If you want to go fishing with two people or transport tackle, you should opt for the iBoat 320 .
Attached to a bankstick with the expander - holds! Knot instructions will be in the next update :D
The following morning I got a fall bite on one of the bank rods. I was particularly pleased about this catch because the last time I had such a big tench in my hands was three years ago.
Tinca tinca ;)
A little later, Sebastian also caught his first fish of the tour. Nevertheless, this beautiful tench was a small consolation.
Especially when I fish in weedy, shallow areas, I mix some groundbait from the Carptrack Explosive Stickmix, Carptrack Amino Pellets in 4mm and hemp.
Then I put everything in the PVA mesh and put it on the leader. This way my rigs lie perfectly on the bottom and the stick mix offers additional attraction under water.
What's creeping around the corner?
On the last morning of this tour, I was able to land this small common carp on one of the long rods.
Then everything was packed up, thrown into the boats and driven to the car. It is also very important to me that the rubbish is always taken away. People, remember that!!! When I see some of the piles of rubbish on the water, I feel sick!
Adios Crazy Lake!
To everyone: good luck on the water!
